Stuart Broad is professional cricketer who represents the English national cricket team in all formats of the game, in tests, One Day Internationals and is the captain of the Twenty 20 side. Broad is the son of former English cricketer and current match referee Chris Broad and although his father was an opening batsman for the team, Stuart is an opening seam bowler who can also bat a bit down the order towards the end of an innings. In fact, his game improved a lot on the batting front since his father began to give him tips on batting and he has molded his game to become an all-rounder that the English team was looking for since it became inevitable that Andrew Flintoff would never be able to play top class cricket after his injury woes. Stuart Broad grasped the opportunity with both hands and ever since his debut for the national side against Sri Lanka in 2007 in tests and Pakistan in One Day Internationals in 2006, he has been a permanent fixture in the English line up, rarely being dropped from the team.
Stuart’s skills with the ball was noticed at a very early age when he was still in school and since his school, the Oakham School had a tie up with the Leicestershire Foxes of the English domestic county, he was given the opportunity to play for them professionally in 2005 and thus, his career in professional cricket had begun. He played for the Foxes for two seasons before he transferred to the Northamptonshire Outlaws, a county where he was born and where his father Chris played most of his cricket. He was voted as the Cricket Writers’ Club Young Cricketer of the Year in August, 2006 on the back of a brilliant debut season for the Foxes.
Stuart Broad was an integral part of the England team that won the Ashes series against Australia in 2009 and he was named Man of the Match in the fifth and final test. The Indian cricket fans, will however, remember him for the infamous six sixes that Yuvraj Singh hit him for in an over in the Twenty World Cup in 2007, but he showed enough strength of character to bounce back from that humiliation to become a truly brilliant fast bowler. Stuart Broad has it in him to be a world beater but whether he can scale the heights to become a legend is only to be seen.
